Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Brett began his dance training at the age of five at the Fort Wayne Ballet School under the direction of Michael Tevlin. He later continued his training at the Virginia School of the Arts under the direction of Petrus Bosman and David Keener.
Directly after graduating from Virginia School of the Arts, Brett joined Alonzo King's LINES Ballet in San Francisco, CA in 2002. For eight years, Brett worked closely with Alonzo King, having been a part of many creations and performing his works all over the world.
In 2010 Brett joined Netherlands Dans Theater 1. Since then he has been dancing works by Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon, Jiri Kylian, Crystal Pite, Marco Goecke and Medhi Walerski amongst others.
