It's an honor for our festival, only 6 years old, to collaborate for the first time with the Music Festival Gstaad who has celebrated 50 recently! A legendary Gutman takes over from another Guttman, armed with the romantic cello concerto by Saint-Saëns, a underestimated genius. The huge talent of the Basel Chamber orchestra will be needed to offset the splendor of the Russian Queen of the cello!

NATALIA GUTMAN
Russian cellist Natalia Gutman received her early musical training from her grandfather Anisim Berlin and Professor Galina Kozolupova, as well as artistic input from the late musicians, cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, pianist Sviatoslav Richter, and her husband, violinist Oleg Kagan. Maestro Richter once expressed his admiration for Natalia Gutman saying: “... she is an incarnation of truthfulness in music.” In 1967 Natalia Gutman won the Munich ARD Competition, launching her international career. Since then she has performed on all continents with orchestras such as Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony, Munich and St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam and many more. Festival appearances include the Salzburg Summer Festival and the Berliner and Wiener Festwochen. Wolfgang Sawallisch, Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, Bernhard Haitink, Yevgeny Svetlanov, Yuri Temirkanov, Sergiu Celibidache, Mstislav Rostropovich and Kurt Masur are among the many conductors who favour Natalia Gutman. Another major interest of Natalia Gutman is chamber music. Her regular musical partners have included Martha Argerich and Elisso Virsaladze, Yuri Bashmet, Alexei Lubimov, Sviatoslav Richter and Oleg Kagan. She has premiered many contemporary works; Alfred Schnittke dedicated a sonata and his first Cello Concerto to her. The complete Bach solo suites have been presented by Ms. Gutman all over the world. She has recorded the Shostakovich Concertos No.?1 and 2 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Yuri Temirkanov for RCA/BMG-Ariola. For EMI she recorded the Dvorak Cello Concerto and other works with the Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Wolfgang Sawallisch. 1992 saw the release of the Schumann and Schnittke Cello Concerto with the London Philharmonic conducted by Kurt Masur. As of late she frequently records for Life Classics. She has been a professor for many years in Musikhochschule Stuttgart and teaches in Moscow. Each year, Natalia Gutman invites internationally renowned artists to the International Musikfest am Tegernsee in the Bavarian Alps, a chamber music festival that she founded in 1990 with Kagan and dedicated to him after his death.

As announced here are other 8 photos of the first evening of the festival "Pietrasanta in concert", which saw leading Russian virtuoso pianist Boris Berezovsky with Enrico Fagone, one of the best bassists in the world, Sergei Nakariakov, with whom he performed the concerto Shostakovich's piano and trumpet and two fearless musicians on piano and Japanese Akane Sakai Mayu Kishima the violin who performed a Mozart concerto recently discovered and completed. All the soloists were accompanied by the Chamber Musicians of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino conducted by Michael Guttman (Foto by Bernard Rosenberg).

«Abbiamo provato ad averlo con noi fin dall’inizio, ma dovevamo meritarlo!», commentano entusiasti dalla direzione del Festival, «Finalmente Accardo arriva in città per Pietrasanta in Concerto e ne siamo molto onorati. Il Maestro consegnerà il nostro Premio per un Giovane Talento Italiano alla pianista Sophie Pacini, vincitrice dell’edizione 2012. E per meritarlo, lei dovrà suonare uno dei più famosi concerti di Mozart, il “Jeunehomme”.»

La serata-evento vedrà la partecipazione anche dei Cameristi del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, diretti da Michael Guttman, con musiche di Mozart, Paganini, Piazzolla.

Da oggi iniziamo a conoscerle da vicino...a partire dalla madrina del Festival, Martha Argerich (nella foto) che si esibirà venerdì 20 luglio, giornata inaugurale di "Pietrasanta in concerto".
Martha Argerich è riconosciuta come una delle più grandi pianiste del ventesimo secolo. Nata a Buenos Aires, Argentina, si è affermata sulla scena internazionale vincendo il Concorso Internazionale Frédéric Chopin di Varsavia nel 1965, a 24 anni.
La Argerich è anche famosa per la sua interpretazione del Concerto per Pianoforte No.3 di Prokofiev e del Concerto per piano in sol di Ravel, che ha registrato molte volte e che continua ad eseguire in pubblico.
Martha Argerich è stata molto apprezzata per le sue esecuzioni della letteratura virtuosistica per pianoforte del XIX e XX secolo. Il suo ampio repertorio spazia da Bach a Bartok, da Beethoven a Messiaen, e comprende anche Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Debussy, Ravel, Franck, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Shostakovitch e Tchaikovsky.
Le sue acclamatissime registrazioni per EMI, Sony, Philips, Teldec, DGG hanno ricevuto numerosi premi tra cui tre Grammy, due Gramophone Award, uno Choc francese ed un Artista dell’Anno della Critica Discografica Tedesca.
La Argerich è inoltre nota per promuovere pianisti più giovani, sia tramite il suo festival annuale, Progetto Martha Argerich di Lugano, sia grazie alle sue frequenti partecipazioni come membro della giuria in occasione di concorsi importanti...
